Hesedh for Life Landscaping

Spring
Prune trees and shrubs that
flower in summer, they should be
pruned in early spring.
Spring is a great time to reseed fescue grasses, plant annuals, perennials and fertilize garden.
Prepare for summer's heat by setting up or buying new watering equiptment, including hoses and sprinklers.
At the beginning of spring you can also make attractive borders in planting bed areas using perennials
like phlox and dianthus.

Summer
Summer is stressful for plants.
Make sure to give new plantings
at least an inch of water a week and
have at least 3 inches of mulch to
protect your plants from summer
heat and the added bonus is mulch
helps to keep weeds down in planting
areas.  During summer once your grass has reached 3-4 inches, get the job done with  mulching mower and leave grass clippings on the lawn, where they'll recycle the nutrients they contain. Remember different grasses require different length cuts. Some grasses need to be cut shorter than other types.
FALL
Fall is a good time for new plantings to become well established before the next  summer season.  When gathering
leaves in fall, mow over your pile
of leaves then put mowed leaf
debris as well as your grass clippings in your compost bin
so you can use compost as soil ammendment over the next year.
Compost bins are a great addition to any garden. They are easy to build and if you don't have the patience for building one many stores sell prefab compost bins in many shapes and sizes. Fall is my favorite time of year. Take time to enjoy the beautiful fall colors. I also suggest going apple picking, what great fun.
Winter
Winter is a great time to prune trees and
shrubs that flower in the spring. They
should be pruned in early winter.
Plant bulbs that will flower in spring such
as daffodils,tulips & crocus.
Winter is also a wonderful time to pressure wash your house, sidewalks, driveway and decks. Make sure it is above freezing outside when pressure washing.  After you have pressure washed we recommend you lay mulch not only to give your  yard a clean look but to also keep winter weeds down, and to already have garden ground ready for those beautiful bulbs and perennials that will arrive in spring. Firepits are a great addition to any garden.  Firepits are easy to build and many stores have a variety of  styles to choose from.
